Odyssey Scholar Spotlight: Siara White
A Voice for Change
When you meet Siara White, one thing becomes clear right away: she is a young leader with a strong voice and a deep sense of purpose. A proud Odyssey Scholar and student at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy, Siara has turned personal challenges into opportunities to serve others and speak up for what matters.
This January, Siara will take the stage at Ebenezer Baptist Church during the Annual MLK Day Service—a nationally and internationally televised event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Out of 19 competitors at her school, Siara was selected to deliver the commemorative speech, making her the second Odyssey Scholar chosen for this honor. For Siara, the moment is about more than public speaking. It is a chance to represent her school, her community, and the values she carries with her every day.
Siara’s leadership extends well beyond the stage. She is a passionate advocate for student mental health and has already made a meaningful impact. In a feature with CBS News Atlanta, Siara shared openly about her experiences with bullying and depression, and how those experiences shaped her desire to help other students feel seen and supported. Her advocacy helped lead Atlanta Public Schools to launch Talk It Out, a 24/7 confidential text line that connects students with licensed mental health professionals.
“It’s nice to talk to your mother and all, but it’s easier to talk to someone that’s licensed and they know what’s going on,”
Siara has also taken her voice beyond Atlanta. She recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for the KABOOM! and Clif KID Zbar Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, where she met with lawmakers to advocate for safe and inclusive play spaces for children. Reflecting on the experience, she said, “Everyone had a story, a purpose, and a vision for a better, more inclusive future. I left D.C. feeling proud, hopeful, and motivated knowing that together, we are helping to build spaces where all kids can play, belong, and thrive.”
When asked about her journey, Siara credits Odyssey with helping her believe in herself and step into leadership with confidence:
“Odyssey gave me the confidence to believe in myself and the tools to succeed. Every opportunity I’ve had since then reminds me that my voice matters—and that I can use it to make a difference.”
Siara’s story reflects the power of education, advocacy, and a supportive community. We are proud to celebrate her as an Odyssey Scholar and excited to see how she continues to shape her future and the lives of others.
