Chloe Mason: Reaching for the Stars

Sixth grader Chloe has her eyes on the universe, hoping to become an astronomer. The Moon, the Milky Way, and the stars all spark her imagination, making her eager to one day study the cosmos professionally. Odyssey has been an important part of that journey, helping her strengthen the academic foundation she will need to follow this path.

A Head Start That Makes a Lasting Difference

A straight A student for as long as she can remember, Chloe has always taken pride in her academic success. One of the things she appreciates most about Odyssey is the early exposure to the content she will learn in the upcoming school year.

At Odyssey, they expose us to the content we’re going to learn in the next grade to come. We get a head start.

That preparation has already proven valuable. Last summer, her Odyssey class read The Giver. When she encountered the novel again during the school year, she felt fully prepared.

I could really understand the book, and I always could answer questions.

This experience is just one example of how Odyssey helps students build confidence and a deeper understanding of what they learn.

Why Odyssey Matters to Her

For Chloe, Odyssey is more than academic preparation. It is a place that nurtures talent, curiosity, and self-belief.

Odyssey enriches the talents and knowledge of the students participating
— She says

She sees Odyssey as a supportive space that helps her build the skills she will need to chase her dream of exploring the universe.

She participates in several activities, including:

  • Her school’s Reading Bowl team

  • The Mathletes team

  • Essence of Pearlfection (EOP), a leadership program for middle school Black girls

  • A competitive baton twirling team, where she demonstrates discipline, precision, and creativity

With her strong academic performance, leadership experience, and passion for learning, Chloe is already on a promising path toward a future in astronomy.
